ABOUT
Kukke Subramanya is a Hindu temple located in the village of Subramanya, Karnataka. In this temple, Kartikeya is worshipped as Subramanya, lord of all serpents. The epics relate that the divine serpent Vasuki and other serpents found refuge under Subramanya when threatened by the Garuda. The temple is situated on the western slopes of the Ghats and is covered with dense evergreen forests. Overlooking the temple is the famous mountain of Kumara Parvatha, a popular hiking destination for trekkers from across South India.
HOW TO REACH
The question ‘ How to reach Kukke Subramanya’ is no more a confusing question, since it can be easily reached by air, train, flight and cab. (I’ve also provided the link of the official website, where you can directly book your mode of transportation)
By Bus: A Kukke Subramanya trip by bus is an affordable choice since there are a lot of buses running from Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore. KSRTC sends regular buses from Bangalore and Mangalore.
By Train: There are a lot of trains to Kukke Subramanya from Bangalore and Mangalore. The nearest railway station is the Subrahmanya Road Railway station, which is just 7 kilometres from Kukke Subramanya.
By Air: Since the city has no separate Kukke Subrahmanya airport, how to go to Kukke Subrahmanya by air is a big question. Though there are no direct flights to Kukke Subrahmanya, the Mangalore International Airport is the nearest for flights from various cities across India. A taxi or a bus can be later hired to reach Kukke Subrahamanya. (I chose this as I was travelling from Mumbai)
By Cab : Kukke Subramanya trip is enjoyable when travelled by car. To reach Kukke Subrahmanya by car, one has to head from either Mangalore or Bangalore.
MY TRIP
DAY 1
I had booked a Spicejet flight from Mumbai to Mangalore through Makemytrip, as it had the best deal at that time as compared to other flight booking sites/apps, and it costed me 4k for a non-stop flight. So, I reached Mangalore at around 11:30 in the morning.

I booked a cab directly from the airport and reached Subramanya Town in about 2.5 hours. I had already booked my stay at Hotel Dwara through booking.com. Check in formalities was pretty quick and I was in the room within 5-7 minutes of my arrival. Room was cosy. It had everything a traveller looks for in a budget hotel. It costed me INR 1.5k for a night, which was a good deal. This property is located at the entrance of the town, near Kumar dhara river (1.5 kms away from the main temple).
Check out a few pictures
After half an hour of rest, I left for the Kukke Subramanyam temple. As soon as I entered the temple, I was electrified by the positive vibes. It was so surreal, peaceful and a tranquil experience. You’ll see many priests (pujari), pilgrims roaming around in the temple. There are many shops, restaurants and lodges at the entrance.

*Taking photographs inside the temple was strictly prohibited, so I can’t show how beautiful the temple was from inside. For that, you’ll have to visit the temple and trust me you’ll get mesmerized by it’s beauty *
That was the end of day 1.
DAY 2
I’ve always been a follower of spirituality, yoga and meditation. So, on day 2, I woke up early at 5 am. I reached temple at around 5:45 and I meditated for at least an hour and that was the best feeling ever. That moment was worth everything I had invested in this trip. If you want to experience the peace of mind, you should definitely visit this place. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can be on your own here. You get to know the real you, your super powers, you get to harness your unknown capabilities! I’m an avid believer of the ‘Power of the universe’ and I felt that power over here.
The breakfast provided by the temple, which is usually referred to as ‘Prasadi’ was delicious. It’s served on a Banana leaf (In most of the parts of South India, eating on banana leaves is considered quite healthy and auspicious)

THE END
That was a glimpse from a very short, but one of the most memorable trips of my life. I’d never want to forget this place. Infact, I’m already planning to visit the temple again, anytime soon. Fingers crossed 🤞.
I’ll leave a few details below –

This place is a must visit, atleast once in your lifetime.
I know this might sound a bit silly, but I love how real everything looks in this post. You know, sometimes you see posts and everything looks so contrived but it doesn’t here and you really capture the ‘realness’, if you like, of where you have visited ♥ x

What a lovely temple! I want to visit more temples on my travels as they’re so serene – the only ones I’ve really been to are in the UK. This looks like a really worthwhile one to visit, and I love that food is served on banana leaves!

Yes, it’s located in southern part of India! So, if you’re there, this place is indeed, worth visiting. You’ll love the peace and tranquil vibes there. And yes, it’s scientifically proved that eating on banana leaves is good for health, also it’s considered auspicious to eat on banana leaves in that part of India.
